Feel the love

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But let’s be honest, it’s our own reflection we have to be the happiest with. Feeling beautiful gives us the extra confidence to be brave and tackle our goals.

As with any goal, it’s best to plan out and create small, achievable markers and actionable plans to get yourself closer to where you want to be.

Want to feel the (self) love a bit more?

Here’s a few things you can do to invest a bit more in yourself and reap the rewards of a healthier, more confident and ambitious version of you!

Radiant skin is something we all chase – especially in these dark, harsh cold winter months.

While products and treatments are an obvious route, there is a less expensive and more holistic approach that may have you feeling brighter and more energised.

Our bodies are pretty transparent. If you take care of yourself, it will show.  Getting adequate hydration, sleep, and nutrition (even in the form of a few supplements) will reflect in the mirror.

Hydrate: 2 litres of water a day.  Add some Coconut water – there’s a reason its become so trendy –  all those natural electrolytes will actually help your body recover from hard sessions (training or drinking!).  coconut water serves as an excellent replacement medium with 294 mg of potassium and 5 mg of natural sugar per glass, unlike your favorite sports drink that only contains half of the potassium content and five times the amount of processed sugar. In addition, the sodium count is only 25 mg, which is relatively low compared to the 41 and 20 mg found in sports drinks and energy drinks respectively

Sleep: Give yourself a bedtime –  11:00. 8 hours are ideal, but let’s be honest, Instagram isn’t going to like itself.  Work backwards to figure out just how long your bedtime routine takes and try to shut off the phone 30 – 60 minutes before you hit the lights.

Letting your body fully rest and regenerate, allows for skin renewal, liver detoxification and hormone balance. If you’re constantly waking up feeling unrested, be accountable to yourself, and consider the possible causes: are you thinking too much? Are you exercising enough? Is your caffeine or alcohol consumption at the next level? Do you wake up with a sore jaw? You could be grinding your teeth at night which causes huge amounts of sleep disruption. If that’s the case, head over to the guys at Impact Dental who can sort you out for a mere 60 Euro – about half the price of 20 mL of a quality skin restorative serum.

Are constant headaches making getting through your day a real grind

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Getting through your day-to-day grind can be hard enough. But you don’t need to make being the super-woman you are, harder than it has to be by coupling your ambitious schedule with massive headaches. If you are constantly suffering, there are a variety of remedies we are sure you have explored: drinking more water and cutting back on caffeine, eating more fruit and veg, taking double doses of paracetimol…

One cause many women in Ireland haven’t considered though, is teeth grinding. 1 in 4 women grind their teeth extensively at night, leading to headaches, sore jaws, deteriorating teeth, and significant loss of quality sleep. €60 for a custom made night guard (including impressions) from the team at ImpactDental could save you from hours of discomfort plus all the money you’ll save on pain killers and the coffees you’ve been downing to compensate for the pain and tiredness.

Now, embrace the day and leave the (pain free) grinding for the night!

Grind harder with this nutrition addition…

They’re about a million approaches we can take to ‘being healthier.’  But to actually solidify a new habit, small and gradual adjustments to our usual routine, generally makes the most impact over the long run;

For most of us, our vision of ‘healthier’ is centralized around a few key pillars: Exercise, Nutrition, and Well-being or Self contentment.

We like tackling all 3 at once and have a lovely little addition for your kitchen that we hope you’ll give a chance…

Turmeric is a powerful little spice most of us haven’t grown up eating, and thus, just don’t think of using in our cooking. It’s a bit bright and new things can be a risk (especially when we are talking about messing with a perfectly fine meal!), however, we think you should give it a chance and jump on the turmeric train…

The spice comes from a root (Curcuma) that is high in Manganese and Iron. It is one of the most potent natural anti- inflammatories –  This is important to you!

If you are in the gym or doing any type of training, you are breaking down your muscles – anything you can do to aid in their recovery will help them repair – and grow bigger and stronger (the goal!).

In addition to reducing inflammation in muscles, it also helps boost immunity, neutralize free radicals and is linked to providing relief for arthritis, menstrual pain, toothache, and bruising. Ie. It’s perfect to incorporate into your healthy cooking, to help improve performance and rejuvenate your body.

So, 1. Exercise: it speeds up recovery.

2. Nutrition: Great nutritional addition to healthy options (veg, chicken, tea – and a few healthier treats.)

3. Well being: will inspire you to cook – which can be a cathartic, creative, and productive process – all of which, release endorphins, and those make your happy 🙂

How to use it:

You can find turmeric pre ground in the spice section. (We know some of you love to grind, so work away if you’re feeling ambitious.)

You can add it to stir fry dishes with veg and meats, or if you want to jump right in, we’ve got a turmeric tea recipe we would love to see you give a shot.

  • –       1 tablespoon raw honey
  • –       1 teaspoon ground Turmeric
  • –       Squeeze of 1 lemon quarter
  • –       ¼ teaspoon grated ginger
  • –       1 grind of cracked black pepper or dash of cayenne to help your body absorb the turmeric
  • –       1 cup boiling water
  • –       optional: top with ½ tablespoon chia seeds for added texture and protein

We also have a cookie recipe we’d love for you try – especially if you need an excuse to justify eating cookies… recovery cookies?

.        1 cup Almond Butter,

.        ¼  cup ground almond meal

.        2 very ripe bananas mashed

.        1 tsp Vanilla extract

.        2 eggs

.        1 tbsp coconut oil

.        1 Tbsp ground Cinnamon

.        1 tsp Ginger Root, (ground)

.        1 Tbsp Turmeric, (ground)

.        1/2 tsp ground Nutmeg, (ground)

.        1/2 tsp Baking Soda

.        1/2 tsp Sea Salt

.        1/2 cup shredded Coconut

.        1/2 cup Pecans, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. Combine the almond butter, ground almonds, banana, coconut oil, vanilla, and eggs. Mix.
  2. Then add the ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, baking soda and salt and mix.
  3. Next add the shredded coconut and pecans and mix thoroughly.
  4. Batter will be thick but not crumbly. If too crumbly beat it longer and release the oils from the almonds.
  5. Scoop a heaping tablespoon of dough and place on parchment paper. Slightly flatten the top of the cookie. Repeat until dough is gone.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

What is Bruxism?

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Continuously waking up with headaches, neck pain, ears ringing or saw jaws/teeth? Don’t feel like you’re rested after you sleep? This could be attributed to grinding, clenching, or gnashing your teeth while you sleep. It’s a legitimate condition called bruxism, that more than 50 % of women experience to some degree.

It’s hard to know if you are a late night grinder. But a few indicators may help you out:

Take your thumb and feel along your tooth line. Do you feel any harsh edges or unexplainable chips?

Have a look in the mirror and assess if your teeth look smaller and worn down or have any sharp ends.

Nightly teeth grinding/ clenching puts a lot of pressure on your teeth and jaws. It’s also impossible to relax when your body is under such force. This explains why you’re waking up feeling less rested than when you went to sleep!

Not addressing this issue will cause your teeth to literally grind down over time, or weaken and chip from being too brittle – causing your teeth to become flatter, shorter and making that smile not as vibrant as it once was!

So, what can you do? During the day, try to avoid clenching your teeth! If you catch yourself doing so, close your lips, and relax your jaw with your tongue slightly between your top and bottom teeth Here’s why: It’s actually impossible to clench your jaw when your tongue is out –  Ever see sprinters or rugby players running with their tongue out? That’s because it’s one of the easiest tricks to force yourself to relax under pressure. But we don’t expect you to walk around sticking your tongue out, so the first technique will work just fine!

For the evenings, get yourself sorted out with a night guard. It will reduce the impact of clenching by providing a cushioning and protect your teeth and jaws so you grind safely all night while you get a good night sleep.  Check out the different options on our site, or get in touch if you have any questions!
